    Hi all,

As some of you already know we have an 8 week old golden retreiver, we picked her up on saturday. She is settling in really well. We would just like some advice on a few things… firstly on a night she goes to sleep about 11ish after been out to toilet But then at around 1am she whines and whines so we get upto let her out where she usually goes to toilet sometimes she doesnt!! we resettle her and dont hear a peep until 5.30-6 ish  :sleepy:
one night we left her to whine and she did settle after 15mins but my worry was what if she needed the toilet for real??? so now we get up…are we wrong to do this? what should and shouldnt we be doing? should we have a routine? all advice very welcome..

    Hi
Her bladder is too small to go all throught the night, Get up and wee her but no chatting just out go wee with cue and back to bed no fussing no playing just get the business done short sharp and sweet.
It won’t be long before she will go through the night, but if you fuss her she will keep getting you up even if her bladder is not calling

Thanks Val will action that tonight.
Also sometimes she ”asks”to go out through day, evening etc…but when she gets out there she will just lay down. how long should we wait until she does her toilet? should we keep cueing her?

dont keep cueing otherwise the cue will become inafective and you will have to re-teach it, ive learnt that one ;D

You need to cue her “go wee’s” or whatever your cue is while she’s going, then praise when she’s done ‘good wee’s’, eventually she’ll go when you tell her (cue her). If she has any accidents indoors, completely ignore her and mop it up, she’ll soon realise she gets the attention when she goes outside  ;D Through the day just get her in the garden when she wakes up from a sleep or after she’s eaten, try and relax, it’ll come  🙂
