Think everyone’s right re the nature of doggy paws being to cover all sorts of terrain for long periods of time!  But if you find his paws are getting sore because of extended work over hard surfaces…

Just a note re sweat and some expensive booties that I’ve seen…

Sure if you had the booties on all day you might want to reconsider whether that’s a good plan, but for a couple of hours??  Just make sure you give his little paws a rinse after you take the booties off!

And if you do feel like he is suffering because of the road work and do go for booties, either go for the home made option, (as it won’t be too expensive to replace fairly regularly) or take a look at getting some really high quality ones that will last you and will be less likely to cause rubbing etc.

Ruffwear stuff IS expensive, but it is designed for working dogs, so less likely to get sucked off if your dog wanders through a bog.

thanks for the link Justine – i will certainly have a look around for the future but think i’ll stick with the no booties options at least for now 🙂

I tried something different yesterday Laura, sprayed Sadies feet with cooking spray…kept the ice and snow off very nicely and her pads were not as dry.  Might be slippy on the pavement though  :canadian:

A lot of people with sled dogs use dog boots for running on rough/uneven trails.
