Ok, for a while now Matt and I have fancied the idea of keeping chickens  ;D We always thought ok, we’ll wait til we get a house with a bigger garden etc but…..yesterday he said “what’s to stop us having them here” and I said “nothing really”  So we were at my mums for dinner last night and popped round to see her neighbour who just has 2 chickens, hardly take up any room and we are really up for it now!  ;D We think we’d like 3 or 4, mums neighbour has offered us their old hen house and a water feeder, so we just need to make a run and obviously sort out some hard standing for them in the garden, so it’s easier to clean. Ooh I can’t wait  ;D Got some books to have a read up on them and I have the number for someone who sells them  ;D

Ok one question!!! Piper!!! How do I stop her from going nuts at them?  ;D Bev  ??? Any tips?

Does anyone else have chickens?  🙂

I dont but I know a friend who has 4, she has 4 dogs who are fine with the chickens.

    Have fun with them!

I think Piper will be ok once she’s used to them, it’s the initial “what are they doing in my garden” that I’m concerned about  ::)

As long as the run is pretty sturdy, she will get used to them.

course you could clicker train her to be calm around the chicks-

Or you could just clicker train the chickens!  ;D ;D

If you are keeping them for the eggs good luck as they are very clever at hiding them ;D
If you plan to eat any of the chickens then I wouldn’t name them

    Are you a vegetarian ?
Most people in the villages kept chicken, duck, geese (for Christmas) and the odd pig or two. If a hen was a bad layer or you were short of money then it went in the pot.

ppl always give me dark looks when i am explaining the meats at tesco to Harry …

funniest was when one morning we chose some roast turkey slices and in the afternoon popped over to the rescue and i stood there and went ooh harry theres a turkey thats where your turkey slices come from that we chose this morning !  …. what exactly is wrong with that ?????!!!!!!

oh and i ate pigs that had names – no problem … very tasty bacon and sausages indeed from spotty and scratching haha !! 🙂

perhaps better not to with kids to eh 😀
