Ok, this was question #9 on todays quiz:

    quote :

    9. In the novel, “Guy Mannering” by Sir Walter Scott, a farmer kept a pack of these terriers?

    Your Answer: Bedlington Terriers
The correct answer was Dandie Dinmont Terriers.

The farmer, named Dandie Dinmont, owned six of the little terriers. The name of the breed came after the publication of the novel and comes from the fictional character’s name.

Now, my question is…how can the farmer have a pack of Dandie Dinmont terriers if Dandie Dinmont terriers didn’t even exist until after the book was written and published?   I knew that the breed was named after the book but do you see what i mean?
    :boooo:

I knew the answer must have been Dandies but answered it wrong out of spite  :canadian:

;D they did exist prior to the book …they were called hindlee or mustard and pepper terriers…
dandie dinmont was a farmer who kept six for keeping the vermin down on his farm when sir w met them he thought it hilarious that the pack were called auld pepper – auld mustard – young pepper – young mustard – little pepper and little mustard… ;D
sir walter scott had a pair of them…after the books publication they became known as dandies or dinmonts then when the breed club came into being they became officially known as dandie dinmonts…it is also one of the oldest breed clubs   🙂 :educated:

but i take your point…..

ps have you seen the ‘canadian’ smiley  😀

    :canadian:  :canadian:  :canadian:
