    Hi all,

Not been on here for a while as i’ve been so busy at work..  :boooo:

I just wanted to ask if you could all say a little prayer for Doug my clumber Spaniel for me as he broke his leg on Thursday evening and is having surgery today. I’m so so worried. It doesnt help that i’m not in my home country so i’ve had to take him to a vets here in Abu Dhabi.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Feel so so worried. Apparently he has a Y fracture and has to have pins in his leg. It’s his front leg.

I guess i’m most worried about the the Aneathestic (spelt it wrong sorry)
Sorry for the panicked post but need my fellow dog lovers to wish him well.  :'(

    Thanks all xx

    Thanks so much everyone.  🙂

Just had a call from the surgeon to say that they won’t be operating on him today as they have done some bloods and have noticed that his potassium levels are low and his Urea levels are high which are signs of Dehydration. They’ve also noticed something in his stomach. They’ve put him on a drip and are going to monitor him and then hopefully operate tomorrow. He’s had a broken leg since Thursday afternoon though. Poor lad… i wish it was me instead.

I’m totally freaking out about it now! I guess the surgeon knows what he’s doing but even so… i just want him fixed and back with his mum  :'( x

Oh no! Did Teddy break his leg also? I must contact Sarah.

The vet said that Spaniels tend to have weak joints? he might have weak joints but he’s a tough little cookie… either that or he was putting it on in front of mum  😉

Fingers crossed for the rascal anyway. Thanks for all your well wishes… Its calmed me down a bit!!!! many a tear this morning!!!!  :-[ xx

The vet is wrong Spaniels do not have weak joints bad breeding makes them weak, these are the cart horses of the gun world if you like, if they had bad joints they could not take the long wet days in the field that is the normal working day of any spaniel I have groomed thousands of gunners and they are a hardy lot, but have to say I am shocked to read that two litter brother have both broken their legs I would most certainly be looking at the breeding of these lads these dogs are not toys they are robust hardy working dogs
Hope he makes a full recovery will be interested in what he has in his stomach

This is from Bev as she can’t get on the site

clumbers have bones that are bloody solid as you know…in fact they are so solid they get ligament probs because of the bloody density…and joints are only weak if over exc…and not given 5 times more calcium as other pups and badly bred…

    steam coming out of ears….

and post that from me if that was the latest…..

i have never ever never had a broken bone….they are what they are…the bulldozers of the dog world…and as such that takes knowledge and care to keep them healthy…but need that building block of good breeding….

Sorry if my post comes out a bit rambled i’m stressing out a bit today.

Just had a mail from the Surgeon to tell me that he has done some more bloods and discovered that his Thyroid levels are really low and that he is starting him on a Thyroid Suplement today. He said he may have canine hypothyroidism which im just about to google.

It does seem strange that his brother had the same break.

How did he do it… This is the ridiculous part. Of all the crazy things the mad boy does, he was chasing his ball and fell on his front. It was dark (ish) so i didnt see exactly how he fell but it looked like he fell on his chest and his leg went out to the side. To be honest all i could think about was his cries, it was the most horrific thing ever. I saw him fall and just thought here he goes clumsy boy up you get. It did not look like the sort of fall that would cause a break, or any injury. So im pretty shocked that it ended in him breaking his leg.

I’m just about to call the vets now. He planned to operate on him today but was concerned about his potassium levels and Urea levels and obviously these patches he can see in his stomach. And now this Thyroid problem,

    Come on Doug…  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Thanks for the well wishes xxx
