i popped out this morning for a few minuets and when i got back i found that stan had been in the garbage and had eaten some very mouldy ham and ontop of this the ham was sat ontop of a mouldy punnet of grapes so now i am realy peed of with him and worrying if i should take him to the vets. i do not believe he touched the grapes its just the ham.
help please???
September 2, 2009 at 11:13 am #87489*Nat*MemberWouldn’t think he needs vets, does he seem ok? He may get an upset tum but I wouldn’t worry too much if he’s left the grapes alone! Naughty Stan, stay out the bin!!! :nono:
September 2, 2009 at 12:30 pm #87490xtineMemberI’d imagine the grapes would be the biggest concern… I agree with Nat.. maybe a dodgy tum later :-\
September 2, 2009 at 5:13 pm #87491kizkiznobiteMemberi would disagree folks…. if you even suspect a dog has eaten grapes, raisens, sultanas, even in fruit cake etc then it vets asap unless you know how to make a dog really vomit…i have known a lab to die just from eating a dozen….hope he ok kerrie
September 2, 2009 at 5:30 pm #87492Aly12MemberI agree. I was once told by an emergency vet that even 1 grape can kill some dogs – it just depends on the dog. I certainly wouldn’t risk it.
September 2, 2009 at 5:49 pm #87493kizkiznobiteMemberdeath can happen in as little as half an hour…but it may take up to several hours for signs of illness, the symptoms are vomiting, anxiety and hyperactiveness until lethergy sets in…there may be diarrhea and abdominal pain …dehydrating is the major problem and the ingested grapes or raisens will be in vomit and faeces… it depends on the dog’s size and the level of toxicity…7 raisens can kill a dog lab size….they cause kidney failure and/or liver failure…. Mate lost her lab after raiding the bird table…dog died a very painful death in just over 30 minutes…even tho she rushed to the vets
September 2, 2009 at 7:47 pm #87494kerrie and stanMemberwel i am 99% certain that he did not touch the grapes as the empty ham tub was stuck ontop, however i did take him to the vets and the vet said to keep an eye on him and that he will most likely have an upset tum.
at the moment he is sulking because i havent given him any dinner but im not sure if i should or just give his tum a rest for today. but as a whole he has been himself all day, including winding the cat up ::).
his pees and poops have been normal and so far (touch wood, fingers crossed ect) he hasnt shown any signs of an adverse reaction or anything.im more angry at myself for not blocking the kitchen off like i ussualy do before i go out
September 2, 2009 at 8:06 pm #87495Foxisle_crazyMemberHope he’s ok kerrie!
Once i was taking a samoyed in for grooming, taking the owners details etc. She gave me a bag of grapes to give him as treats, apparently he loved them! 😮 😮 I couldn’t believe it, i told her under no circumstances was i going to feed those to her dog. Another owner left a bag of raisins for her manchester terrier! it was a tiny little thing, i dunno how she didnt come to serious harm. The owner was very upset when i told her how dangerous they can be

September 3, 2009 at 10:33 am #87497kerrie and stanMember😮 i cant belive that if you were going to sell dog treats then surly you would research what can be put in them
