    Hello,

My name is Anna and I used to come on here years ago, but for various different reasons I found myself with out a doggy in my life…that was until yesterday.

I was asked to take on a beautiful girl Bullmastiff.  She has come from a home where everything she did was wrong.  She has been treated like she wasnt wanted and she is surprisingly gentle and laid back.

I am going to need to train her, she doesnt even know basic commands and I was hoping for some help and advice on how best to approach her training.  I know from my research that this breed needs gentle but firm handling but she seems almost defeated, there is very little get up and go in her and I want to rectify all this.

I could use any advice that anyone can give me as she is such a beautiful girl she deserves it.

    Thanks

    Anna and DeeDee

Aw thanks for replying, she is gorgeous.  She hasnt got any major problems with her training but it would be easier if she knew certain commands like up and down, sit or stop!!  She doesnt pull on the lead or chew things she shouldnt she is pretty much perfect!!  She doesnt even know her name!!!

I will post some pics when I can get them from my mobil on to my comp!!

    Thanks again  ;D

    Hi and welcome back 🙂
I would teach her the same way as a puppy, it may take her a little longer to learn things but just remember praise the good – ignore the bad 😉

    Hello and welcome 🙂

I am gutted to have to say that I no longer have Deedee, I only had her a couple of weeks.  It turned out that the rescue center she came from wasnt closed down after all and some one reported the ppl who had her before me to the ppl at the rescue place and they demanded that she went back to them.

I was misinformed of the situation and I sadly had to let them take her back.  I have since rescued a staffy boy called Patch and he has been with us for just over a week.  I still miss Deeds every day but Patch is agorgeous fella and I love him to bits already.

I just thought Id let you all know.

I am looking at a litter of pups tomorrow, so I MIGHT be having another but definately sticking to just the two!!  I have already found a dog training club local to me so when I do and she is old enough I can start socialising her and start the basic training, tho Patch it so good I am hoping he will help!!

Ok, going to be really good here – please do not take this the wrong way, but do you not think you should give Patches a bit of time to settle in, he has only been with you for what a week or 2? before getting a second dog.

    Hello,

I know what you mean but Iam pretty confident that Patch has settled.  He is an amazing dog, he is calm and happy and loving with everyone he meets, I am going to book him in for training classes as the only problem I have with him is that he pulls like a steam train on the lead!!

I wont be bringing home Peppa the pup until the 5th September which will give him a little bit longer but I am still sure he will be fine with her.  You really wouldnt think he’d only been here a couple of weeks.  I have thought about this long and hard and what ever happens both dogs will be loved and taken care of and if I have a bit of extra work to do with them both then so be it I think it will be worth it in the end!!
