my sister got a cat in november and the RSPCA neglected to tell her that she needed to take the cat to the vet for a second injection within three weeks, she has now been told that the cat has to have the full course again.

the injection that the cat needs to have is Leucogen, can anyone tell me a it more aout this and what its for??

my sister is very confused by all of this so i have offered to ask on here for some advice.

not sure about cats but maybe Jacqui or Val can help 🙂

She should complain to the RSPCA – although it won’t do much good ::)

well when she got the cat from the RSPCA they told her: its a stray, it was good with children, it was good with dogs

there is no way that cat is a stray 😀

I think you’ll find Laucogen is for feline leukaemia! As for having the full course again I’m not sure, I don’t have my cats vaccines done anymore but she did used to have this one  :-\

That is the vaccine for feline leukaemia virus (FeLV).

    Primary course vaccination
In cats of eight weeks and over, administer two doses of Leucogen 3 to 4 weeks apart. To protect kittens, the vaccination of female cats prior to mating is recommended.
    Booster immunisation
Where cats are exposed to infection, a single dose of Leucogen is recommended annually to boost immunity to feline leukaemia; otherwise earlier revaccination may be required.

I don’t vaccinate for this, not 100% that it works as well as they say it does. If the cat is not a wanderer and you don’t get other cats in the garden then the risk is not too high.

do cats not have a course of injections like dogs do (puppy vaccs)?

the cat is still house bound at the moment as my sister wants her vaccinated before she goes out

Yes they have a course of two jabs
    the main ones are
        * Feline Infectious Enteritis (FIe) also called Panleukopenia.
        * Feline Calcivirus (FCV) a strain of the common cold.
        * Feline Rhinotracheitis (FVR) or Cat Flu.
You are given the option of the feline leukaemia jab but I don’t give that one.
Has the cat had the other jabs, is it just the feline leukaemia jab  that was missed?

It needs the basic ones   * Feline Infectious Enteritis (FIe) also called Panleukopenia.
        * Feline Calcivirus (FCV) a strain of the common cold.
        * Feline Rhinotracheitis (FVR) or Cat Flu
    before it goes out.
How old was the cat when your sister got it, it may have had them before the RSPCA got hold of it ::)
I can’t understand why only that vaccine was given and not the basic ones

i dont know how old the cat is but she is still young.

i have sent a link to this post to my sister so that she can have a read

maybe they had an outbreak at the cattery where the cat was kept, as i can’t see any other reason for just giving just that vaccination (other than being stupid that is)

this is the RSPCA we are talking about 😀 😀
