Meikle Bin walk03/01/09

my dog school took a new year walk up the Meikle Bin. dogs loved it, but i had to leave Echo at home with my mum, as this would have been to much for her.

the black Shepard is a friend of one of the walkers, her husband couldn’t make the walk so she brought a Friend from the stables. she did very well. but her owner was very tense at the start as she had never been round so many dogs off lead. but the dog settled in no bother.

hear are the directions we were given. it is practically on our door step

Meikle Bin Walk

Route to the start of the Meikle Bin walk.
From the training school head towards Croy Railway station all the way through Croy to a T junction, Turn right at the T junction down and over the River Kelvin by Auchinstarry Quarry all the way through 2 other roundabouts to Kilsyth Road End roundabout turn right at this roundabout on to the Main A803 towards Banknock /  Denny / Stirling. Travel along this road for approx 0.4 miles and Turn Left up the Tak Me Doon Road .

At the bottom right is a Large Blue Number 73 this is the Tak Me Doon road from Kilsyth going up and over the hill to the Carron Bridge Hotel.  Turn Left at this hotel on the B 818 towards Fintry and the Carron Reservoir.
At the start of Carron Reservoir there is a main car park go past this still going towards Fintry to the farthest  end of the reservoir to a Farm called Todholes. Just here on the left is a smaller car park and the main starting point.
From there we follow the blue dotted line which is a full track all the way along until the 2nd last Blue dot where we turn off the track to go up to the summit. This is where we will need a pair of boots as there is no real track but just a worn path with walkers.
At the top at 570m there is a Cairn. Then its real easy all the way back down the route we came up

oh you wouldn’t believe, i dint know who’s stupid idea it was to stop and eat at the top, as it was so windy i took my gloves of for a second so i could get my flask out and my hands were numb.  some of the others were handing out some Jack Daniels and some whiskey to warm everyone up
