eerr, in relation to what Bev? Youre being cryptic againย  :surprise:

so far have walked to pub for my brothers birthday drinkย  :-X was quite alot of this ways to the point that he was circling to turn back around. walking a few extra paces stopped that, he must have worked out that i did it for two or three paces and was ahead of me! ‘we should be turning now’ sort of thing.
he was good once there and settled pretty well.

got the left right on visual but he sometimes messes about and jumps at my hand.

went on the ‘sheep’ walk today. cursary glance. went through a quiet farmyard on lead, pretty good. lawnmower in action got his interest, i had mowed my lawn yesterday and it fired him up.

he does insist on being in front of me though which can be a pain as he keeps only just in front when hes tired. he will not walk to heel off lead either. suggestions welcome!

    hi,

i think she means u just expecting too much on the grass – take it slow and dont burn out your cues ๐Ÿ™‚

also the “lie down and look dim” stage happens when they overloaded – big “bingo” and fresh water and a break and then carry on.ย

    claire x

p.s. cringes as realises just written “bingo” (bev speak) omg omg …. its 1984 ….. its not newspeak … its bevspeak oh oh oh what a day the french gov do their best to take our nuclear power station and then i slip into bevspeak oh oh oh !!!!!ย  off to lie down ๐Ÿ™‚

i find myself talking about not allowing him to self reward and to people who couldnt give a ^&*t, and not to pet him until they ready not him and they say ‘i am ready’. yeah, good hes bouncing about.

sometimes i think im expecting too much, then being too ‘that’ll do’.

oh, and i did some ‘left/right’ for his breakfast and im thinking ‘blimey, i got a bc here’ hes going so quick. then ‘oh, hes a bulldog’, he suddenly lies down and looks as if hes forgotten what he was doing.
short bursts of brain activity followed by slow whirring of cogs lol. gives me a breather anyway.

we/I are having problems with socialising.ย  everytime we have gone out and seen a dog/s, he has got more woound up. i am obviously reinforcing this but dont know what to do about it.

he goes into alert mode then pulls to get to them and gets i suppose frustrated that he cant go mad with them. he takes absolutely no notice of me.ย  it happened today at the end of our walk when a woman with a buggy, jt and an italian greyhound appeared off lead. he did his usual yank to get to them and the jt was calm but the ig went nuts hareing past and barking 3 or 4 times butting Max up the bum for good measure. this got him excited and eager to chase. he seemed to come back to me once they’ed gone, got in the car then jumped back out and tried to get his collar off. his car manners are usually good.

back home and he was still wound up. ripped up a phone book.

i’ve got my hands full. i dont know what to doย  :-\

    Hiya,

did you have clicker + treats if yes what treats ?

did you tell the IG owner to get their dog under control ?ย  I usually find “please control your dog my dog may bite” gets them focussed on getting their dog back ๐Ÿ™‚ย

you need to stay calm once you’ve grumbled at owner then forget them and get him focussed you – keep your rankest most smelling treats at the ready and be rewarding all through the walk so he is switched on to start with and whenever its a blind corner especially get him well focussed into the clicker and treaties ๐Ÿ™‚ย

    – problem is you trying to get back focus too late, the criteria is too high and reward too low.

work on your “leaveit” indoors and then outside in relatively empty streets and work up from there

no clicker. treats were sausage and chicken.ย  thats high for him.

she did, but i said let it go, it will be good for himย  :embarrass: i didnt know it would do what it did, it looked quite composed when i first saw it

he will not focus on me at all when this happens. he knows i have treats, when i offer one for recall etc he snaffles it then goes off again, he does not do off lead heel .

    – problem is you trying to get back focus too late, the criteria is too high and reward too low.
thats definitely true when it came to the rank pond. i was too slow and he was already in it in his mind, but he did try to get out as he was jumping in.

yep, doing that. v good in the house, depends what it is on the street, dogs and people (in that order) are just too much for him to ignore, he ignores me instead.

    Hi,

treats – if they were good enough he would have been listening to you ๐Ÿ™‚ย  black pud / liver for working at high criteria like this ๐Ÿ™‚

other dogs – i wouldnt let other dogs near him until you can control him (ie: he is focussed on you obeying cues and not pulling your arm off :))ย  he will focus if you do it a) soon enough and b) with good enough treats and a clicker ๐Ÿ™‚ย  promise ๐Ÿ™‚

you need to get a “wait” and “release” cue after that recall not just reward and let him run away again – thats not being in control ๐Ÿ™‚

sorry its short and sweet – little ones bedtime ๐Ÿ™‚

done those aswell, no difference in treat, he snaffles and attention elsewhwere.

i agree, i know i am doing it wrong here. he was socialised until 12 weeks then nothing, so he approaches dogs like a 12 week old in an 8 month (big) body. he needs to be ‘told off’ by other dogs for his approach to them which is pretty full on. also, it seems to me that he believes he is ‘the man’ outside.

    definitely
