My collie cross retriever has a poorly paw.
He was limping yesterday afternoon, wouldn’t put any weight on it. This morning all swollen. Saw the vet this morning and she put him on antibiotics and pain killers. He then has to go back on friday for x-ray and to be sorted out – might be a foreign body or a broken toe ???The problem at the moment is that he has only been peeing in the last 36hrs. I’m not sure if it’s just that he can’t balance :-\
February 17, 2009 at 9:42 pm #86237AnonymousGuestaw bless look at his face 😀
Hope he heals okay :-*February 17, 2009 at 10:48 pm #86238AnonymousGuesthi,
i expect he’ll shit when he needs it – the body is a wonderful thing, i expect its slowed processing and output if you like … it can do this as part of the pain response system 🙂
hows his appetite ?
i would mention it to the vet friday if you still worried.

February 17, 2009 at 11:03 pm #86239Tavy-FingleMemberHe’s eating about half of what he would normally.
I’m having to hand feed him.
February 17, 2009 at 11:05 pm #86240xtineMembernot sure what to advise, maybe give the vet a call :-*
February 17, 2009 at 11:16 pm #86241*Lassie*MemberAs long as he is taking in enough fluids and peeing Ok , the urine is not really strong in colour/smell then I wouldn’t worry about being off his food.
At the moment he is in pain, may have an infection and being male feeling very sorry for himself 😉
He is not doing at lot as exercise so won’t feel that starved and lack of exercise and not enough fluid can make him constipated.February 17, 2009 at 11:34 pm #86242Tavy-FingleMemberUrine is fine.
He had a long drink this afternoon.
Just taken him outside for his night time wee – much carrying and persuasion :suspious:
He didn’t do anything. So I’m off to bed real soon as no doubt I’ll be up in the night, or there may even be a puddle waiting for me in the morning!
February 18, 2009 at 12:21 pm #86243Tavy-FingleMemberNo puddle! and he emptied himself this morning on a very short hop.
However the swelling had burst so went back to the vets this morning.
The vet cleaned it and flushed it out. Shackleton was very good. He now has a big red bandage! Because it opened on its own we are hoping that whatever was in the paw has now gone, can’t be certain yet, but much less likely that he’ll need a general :ok:
He’ll be checked over on Friday. Fingers crossed……….
February 18, 2009 at 12:23 pm #86244AnonymousGuesteuwwww – lets hope whatever burst let out all the nasties 🙁
February 18, 2009 at 2:58 pm #86245Kerry_and_BeauMembermy mum and dads dog had this over xmas not sure if there was ever anything in there or just an infected puncture wound, but once it burst it cleared up great 🙂 hope he feels better soon :-*
February 20, 2009 at 6:10 pm #86246Tavy-FingleMemberJust a quick update…
The bandage is off. The wound now just needs to dry out and heal.
His temperature is back to normal.
He jumped up to greet me and gave a bark this morning! He also ate all his tea tonight!
