    Those are cute shots!

Is it your akita who had the problems with the auto-immune disease?  If it is, how is the medication working out?  Much improvement yet?

    If not, I’m sorry!!

Hi, yes it is my Akita with the immune problem.

Obviously no-one can predict the future but so far so good  🙂  We are 6 1/2 weeks into treatment and her pads are back to normal – nails are getting there.  They take as long as the new growth of nail takes but they are looking good.

She was put on steroids and an immunosupressant drug and the steroids have already been reduced by 50%.  The long term plan is to get her off of the steroids completely first and then take her off of the other drug gradually.

I do also treat her homeopathically which I think helped – even the specialist was shocked to see such quick progress.

Thank you for asking about her  🙂

they are both gorgeous Lucy :-* How is Loki with other dogs? My dad has an akita/gsd and she is a nightmare, especially with other bitches. I’ve never met a nice akita tbh. There’s a guy with two that walks on the beach and both of his are now muzzled 🙁

My Akita is pretty good with the other dogs – she is very good with Odin my male Rottie.  She will put him in his place (like bitches do) but doesn’t go over the top with him.  I don’t let her out unsupervised with the other girls but she goes on walks with other dogs no problems.  To be honest she is very aloof and just doesn’t want alot to do with other dogs apart from her boy Odin – oh and she plays alot with one of my cats!

All in all she has a pretty fantastic temperament but I have put in alot of time and effort with her from a pup…

The specialist she see’s in Langford was very wary of her to start with as the only Akita’s she has come across have not been too good – now every time we are up there she and all the trainees are cuddling Loki and telling everyone how lovely she is…very proud of my girl!

that’s lovely! We got Tila as a 3/4 year old rescue and she was normally very aloof with people and dogs but once she got settled into a home environment she became a nasty piece of work with some dogs, i do have to say it is also down to the training she has (not) received. i was to busy getting dodger back on track to do anything with her and my parents just let her rule the roost ::)

(been away for a bit – hence delayed response!)

Glad to hear she’s on the mend.  She sounds like a right sweetie!

Re aggression – most dogs have “weaknesses” or areas which need working on more than others – terriers and recall for example.  That may be one with the strong-minded Akitas (take no nonsense!) Like you say, if you do the right sort of socialising and training early on, you should (most of the time) be ok.

    And if you don’t… I met a (very) dog-agressive flat-coat once!  Madness.
