had a really really good walk today

Probably more to do with my confidence than him but i haven’t walked dodger without his head collar on since the whole problems started :'( Along with not taking his head collar off i also have only let him off the lead twice 🙁 Anyway today we got to nelson hill and since it was dead i thought i’d bite the bullet and let him off lead with his head collar on (tight enough for him not to be able to fit an arm in but be able to pant) he stood and looked at me for about 30 seconds probably waiting for me to quickly snap his lead back on before he moved about a foot away from me. I stood and laughed at him then told him to go play.

I have never seen that boyo move so fast. He started running full pelt doing laps of the field. 😀 nearly brought tears to my eyes just seeing how happy he was running free like we used to do.
Everything was going so well, he was listening well and coming back when called until he made a mad dash into the trees. Just on the other side there’s a really busy road so i called him back – which he didn’t come to ::) seconds later a bunny came chasing out the tree’s very closely followed by dodger – they did a big circle back into the trees all the while me standing like an idiot – a few seconds later out popped the bunny again and just as he was about to turn back to head towards the tree’s dodger caught up – he grabbed it’s tail and threw it up in the air. It only got about 12 inchs off the ground as the fur just ripped straight out of it’s tail – i told dodger to leave it and come which he then did leaving the bunny to run back into the trees.

He came running over to me with the his tail wagging 50miles and hour and a whole load of fur sticking out his mush ::)
the field was still empty so i thought i’d brave it and let him have a run without his head collar  i took it off and we had a lovely walk to the top of the hill with lots and lots of photo’s ;D

he was super good and i felt so good i walked him home just on his collar – it was really nice seeing him like that – free and happy :-* just like before

got some pic’s to follow but here’s one of his chasing the rabbit (the rabbits just inside the tree’s so you can’t see it :()

    awwwww 🙂

well done you …. mister dodger you need a better leaveit norty boy 😉

i’d say you missed his intital “oooh i smell/see wabbit” maybe because you were thinking about that road being near ?

sometimes with bonnie near the wabbits i have to do leaveit – thisway (and turn my body to face away from her so i can see her turn and see me still) then recall.  this is because (i think) her leaveit and thisway cues are stronger – because used and re-inforced more often, than her recall.  i dont know if this will just confuse dodger but i think you’ll know if its likely to work (i hope) !!

yup we need to work on the leave it – he’s never been a rabbit chaser and if he see’s one he’ll just watch it then leave it when i say leave it. I think it was the whole thing of being off lead and seeing it run while he was running but defiantly something we need to work on

I like that one of him in profile lying down – think it’s third down on your second post, between 2 pics of him running.  🙂
