Two pet dogs left to die inside a sealed up cardboard box had a lucky escape when a passer-by rescued them.

The Jack Russells, nicknamed Scrappy and Scooby, were saved by a motorist who spotted the container at the side of a road in Nottingham.

Rspca inspector Sue Haywood said: “In this heat they could have died.”
