Watched it, enjoyed it…but did get slightly irked that what I got laughed at for doing 15 years ago is now prime time telly. Still, better late than never.

justpetdogsMemberJust so everyone is aware and doesn’t think I’m just ignoring Hellen…
It’s fine if Hellen wants to discuss her experiences and feelings on here but it’s not appropriate for me to discuss anything about her coursework on a public forum. I’ll keep the chat with Hellen private.

justpetdogsMemberA farmer took his Border Collie out with him one day to check on his flock.
“Go and count how many sheep I have.”, he told the dog.
Off the Collie went, ran round the flock and back to the farmer.
“OK, how many sheep do I have?” asked the farmer.
“Ten.”, said the Collie.
“What! But I only bought nine!”, replied the farmer.
“Ah! I rounded them up!” replied the Collie.
:embarrass: Sorry, couldn’t resist! :embarrass:
To be honest, if they were kept according to the law there would be no pitbulls alive in this country any more since the DDA was introduced 18 years ago (1990), required individuals belonging to the listed breeds to be neutered (and the other provisions) and made it illegal to import any more …therefore, unless there’s one or two toothless, doddery old eighteen-year-old PBs still hobbling around somewhere, the breed should be extinct in this country! When the legislation was brought in, two of the listed breeds didn’t even exist in this country!
Marion
P.S. And if everyone drove according to the law, there would be no-one killed in road accidents in this country either…but we haven’t banned Honda Civics, or Rover 200s, or Vauxhall Astras, or Ford Fiestas, or any other ‘breed’ of car yet!
justpetdogsMemberNo-one’s been naughty (well, not on here anyway :o), I was just teasing after putting them through several hours of lectures on how to reference, why to reference and why the internet may not be an academically rigorous source of information :death:

I would read birch and bailey – do your assignment – come back here ask questions – redo your assignment then submit ;D
Just be careful how you ask the questions…remember, I’m watching :educated:…and if you need to know how to reference a post on a public forum, you know where to look :tease:

does the course include any human psychology ?
Not as an individual topic…we do skim the basics in the comparative psychology module and I suppose we touch on it indirectly in the instructing & counselling modules.

My only longer term worry is how we make him understand that he comes under our toddler in the pack? I keep them apart unless I can supervise closely because he does tend to jump up at him (and nip sometimes), plus steals his food/toys if I’m not watching. In reality will it have to be like this until my son is quite a bit older?
Nothing to do with ‘pack’ and everything to do with training. As Mudgie said, get your basic training in place (sit, down, off, come, leave, stay, etc.) and you’ll have the tools to keep the pup from jumping up at and stealing from your toddler. You’re being completely sensible about keeping pup and toddler apart unless you can closely supervise…that should be the way of any dog-child relationship until the child is old enough to behave appropriately with and control the dog…but I’m afraid that will be the way until your son is quite a bit older (Ian Dunbar suggests boys aren’t capable of behaving appropriately around dogs until they’re about 12 years old! 😮 ;D)

;D lots….
…and lots, and lots, and lots…and then some more! 😀justpetdogsMemberIan Dunbar (the ‘godfather’ of positive puppy training) is a great speaker: funny, intelligent, very charismatic and does great dog impressions (his Jack Russell is a classic)! I’ve heard him speak many, many times. I always pick up some new idea and fresh inspiration from him and come home with aching sides from laughing so much.
He did say recently that he wouldn’t be doing anymore talks outside the US (except for his annual jaunt to the Bahamas) so I don’t know how Lisa & Tara managed to persuade him to come to Ireland. If you get the chance, go!
