There are loads of non-shedding breeds such as the Bichon, Bedlington many of the terriers etc without breeding mongrels! However, as has been said, it may be the dander or “bloom” on the coat that causes the trouble so your mother needs to spend time with a particular breed to see if she reacts. Someone I know with the same problem ended up with a small American Hairless terrier, the Mexican Hairless was too big for him LOL!
sheralikeMemberUK Rally is now taking off and I think it will be very popular once people get to know about it. Several APDT trainers are now running classes and workshops so if you fancy doing something a bit different give it a go!
sheralikeMember;D Oh well at least that’s a couple to practise on!! Did a course this week at our IWSA champ show weekend set by an American trainer (can’t remember her name) but I must have done it wrong as I didn’t get placed! It was good fun though and the dog loved it. Last night at club had them working on dogs tucking their hind ends in when turning as apparently this is looked for on the right and left turns. Practise by circling first and clicking when dog moves hind legs in then progress to going round four chairs again clicking for hind legs moving in. Your body posture is very important as that tells the dog the direction of turn and yes, that includes your feet! This is going to be such fun I can just tell! :suspious:
sheralikeMemberYes at Moulton college, if you’re taking your dog we may be practising our judging skills on you in the afternoon, can I say sorry in advance?!!
at Moulton college? ;D
[/quote]sheralikeMemberWe teach Rally but it is a steep learning curve for class and trainers at the moment! The scoring system in my opinion is quite complicated and you really have to be in full thinking mode when following someone round a course! Think it is easier to take part rather than judge! But I am going on a workshop, probably same place, in August to learn to be a proper rally judge and things will hopefully become much clearer LOL! My ‘bible’ is Click Your Way to Rally Obedience by Pamela Dennison.
sheralikeMemberNo I haven’t put any on here, got some of them on website but don’t know if I am allowed to mention that on here!! My GSD had a bad start and had lots of people issues as a youngster – he used to wet himself if he thought a man was getting too close but luckily was never aggresive just so scared. He had been hit with sticks in his previous home and was also worried about mops, brushes etc which was fun at training when the mop had to come out, he used to disappear under the nearest chair! He weighed 18kg when I found him and was a bit hungry bless him.
sheralikeMemberThat photo of the three dogs – it’s like looking at my jackie russell, GSD and crossbred ‘cept our Molly doesn’t have white on her chest!! Add a watery spaniel and that’s my family! Best of luck with Dodger, he is a very lucky boy to have you as his “mum”.
sheralikeMemberNot long now to this show! If you want to buy cheaper tickets pre-day (four pounds adult) go on the website and order now, still time. I know people can get put off shows that are part of a bigger show but this is a nice show and well worth four pounds to get in! (and the dog show will be great, loads of rosettes (two tier) and prizes) – we would love to meet some dog clubbers!
sheralikeMemberYou could start training him for Rally as I think it is going to take off over here shortly and it isn’t boring like formal obedience – have a look on youtube at dogs actually doing it, you can download the signs from the apdt.co.uk website, my dogs love it.
sheralikeMemberAll his methods smack to me of coercion and make me feel very uncomfortable as the dog doesn’t know what is required of it. I’ll stick with positive clicker training ta!!! The thing that really upsets me is that the average pet owner watches him and is impressed by him for some strange reason. Also his material is now being advertised in certain English doggy magazines and I don’t think this is good. They print articles about positive training and then print a full page advert for him!!

sheralikeMemberJust looked on Amazon uk for you and there are a couple of Canine Lexicons from £25 and loads of KC Illustrated Breed Standards, lots of different editions at different prices. 🙂
sheralikeMemberThe Canine Lexicon published by TFH is a dog bible!! It’s huge and I think it is quite expensive, I won mine. It covers dog breeds worldwide. There is also the Kennel Club Book of Illustrated Breed Standards published by the UK Kennel Club. An old book I have is called Dogs of the World and has nearly every breed in with photos. Amazon and second hand book shops are good sources to look.
sheralikeMemberHi
I am in Lancashire and this is the same size as my Arnie’s travel box which he has broken the door on!!! I want it, whereabouts are you??
Thanks. 🙂sheralikeMemberWhereabouts do you live?
