Hi Jamie,
I too would like to know the answer to that one! I have a 9 month old gsp and although most of the time she has good recall…Spmetimes she too goes deaf ! I know that with my last gsp we use to walk with a friends dog who always would come back..and my dog would come back with her…every time! Hope we find an answer! Good luck!sonyMemberHi I have a 10 1/2 year old Gsp. She has had lumps as long as I can remember. The vet has checked them …some are fatty lumps, some are harder and cyst-like. I could either have them all cut out (meaning the trauma of anaesthetic etc) and analysed (Probably making her look like half a dog!) just to find out they are all benign ..Of course the other possibilty is that they are all cancerous ~ but at nearly 11years old I would prefer her to live out her life as peacefully and painlessly as possible. Also I think that on the short haired dogs like ours the lumps and bumps do tend to be more noticeable. Just thought you would be interested in our situ.. of course everyone has their own opinion when it comes to their own dogs.
sonyMemberGlad Nacho is feeling better Mudgie. My Rio had 10 days of S & D a couple of weeks ago.. Turned out it seems that she has become intolerant of any Wheat products. No more fancy treats or home made buns for her! It’s awful to see them so poorly.. Upwards & onwards now eh! :ok:
sonyMember:agree: :ok:
sonyMemberThanks Val.
I ask because yesterday Rio came home from her usual romp on the moors & when I touched her ear she yelped. On closer inspection I can see a swelling on the ear flap. It isn’t too big & today I can touch it without any problem -I have looked at the ear canal & given it a good rub also with no problem…in fact she enjoyed it! ::)
I think she may have either caught the ear in some gorse (on one of her rabbit chasing romps! ) Or when she flapped her ears that morning she accidentally caught it on something.
As it is Bank Holiday & I don’t think this could be classed as an emergency-I haven’t had her checked with the vet.
On some vet websites it has been said that these haematomas can be left alone- & the haematoma will resolve by itself.
I’m hoping that this will happen as Rio is now nearly 10 & IF the only problem is how she will look- not how she feels- then I would forego having to have her go under anaesthetic.
Just wondered if anyone’s dog had had this & what the outcome & time element involved before the ear improved.
Thanks once again.sonyMemberLike you Diesel I haven’t been on here for a while. I have also read with much interest your tales of Wodan. It’s so sad that they are with us for such a short while. It is only you and your family that are suffering now. Wodan is free. May you all have strength to take you through this very sad time. x
sonyMemberHi Sweetypye.
I have started giving Rio Omega 3 pure fish oils. 1000mg capsules containing 18% EPA and 12 % DHA.
One per day. She thinks they are delicious! So that is a plus! Will take note of any improvement in her coat etc,Thanks for you input!
LizsonyMemberHi Val I don’t think any of the “youngsters” on this forum are even bothering to read this thread! ??? lol
I do remember playing hop scotch with the chalk on the pavements (we were allowed to play outdoors in the street in those days!) ‘cos there was hardly any traffic! And jacks and marbles and hoola hoops! Also had a den in the hedges in the local park.. Played there for hours undisturbed (NO MOBILES!)
My fav thing was swapping beads in the playground during the school lunch break! Beautiful glass jewels as big as my hand!! Even Crunchies were huge in those days.. The summers were always sunny & warm too..

I can even remember the milk man delivering milk with his horse & cart! I used to feed the horse with an apple. The corona man also with the dandelion & burdock pop!
I also used to have a wooden mangle -brilliant for doing the eiderdowns!
What about Woolworths when you could ladle up the different couloured sherbit into little triangular paper bags! Use to have half a crown pocket money which use to enable me to buy loads of sweets which would last a whole week.
OMG the list is endless but alas my memory is fading ………….. :embarrass:sonyMember:surprise: :surprise: Ooooops I can remember 11!!!!
